This rug was woven by Anaya and her sister Latifa.
Anaya and her sister belong to a female-only weaving association located in Anzal, a village located 28km north of Tazenakht, the popular weaving town.
This rug was originally designed by a colleague in the association and Anaya and her sisters interrupted this design when making this new weave.
Made with 100% "live" wool, the artisans of the association carded, spun and dyed the wool all by hand. The base color is natural, undyed black wool and the abstract designs come from a blend of spices and plants such as saffron, henna, and pomegranate skin.
The design of this pieces feel modern, thought it represents thousands of years of artistic tradition.
Please note, some of the colors have faded in the Moroccan sun.
